Certification Requirements

Corporate Interfaith Chaplain: Current membership in CIC; completed application and payment of fees; four (4) units of CPE from a COMISS member accredited CPE training center or program; current employment as a corporate chaplain; official letter of endorsement from a faith group if offered (or) two letters of recommendation from the following: Human Resources Director – Faith group leader – Corporate Administrative Officer – Elected Official; completion of a graduate degree from an accredited college, university, theological school or specific training required by an applicant’s faith group preparing them to serve as a corporate chaplain. Accredited entities include: ATS, ABHE, CHEA, DETC, ACICS and ACCET.  International equivalencies and English language for work may be required through World Educational Services (WES) and International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

Associate Corporate Interfaith Chaplain: Current membership in CIC; completed application and payment of fees; two (2) units of CPE from a COMISS member accredited CPE training center or program; current employment as a corporate chaplain; official letter of endorsement from a faith group if offered (or) two letters of recommendation from the following: Human Resources Director – Faith group leader – Corporate Administrative Officer – Elected Official; completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited college, university, theological school or specific training required by an applicant’s faith group preparing them to serve as a corporate chaplain. Associate Corporate Interfaith Chaplain - Legacy: Current membership in CIC; completed application and payment of fees; one (1) unit of CPE from a COMISS member accredited CPE training center or program; current employment as a corporate chaplain; a minimum of 2000 hours of verifiable employment as a corporate chaplain; official letter of endorsement from a faith group if offered (or) two letters of recommendation from the following: Human Resources Director – Faith group leader – Corporate Administrative Officer – Elected Official; completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited college, university, theological school or specific training required by an applicant’s faith group preparing them to serve as a corporate chaplain. Accredited entities include: ATS, ABHE, CHEA, DETC, ACICS and ACCET. International equivalencies and English language for work may be required through World Educational Services (WES) and International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

Maintaining Your Certification

  1. Current on membership fees
  2. Conference attendance in person or via webcast
  3. Employment as a Corporate Chaplain
  4. Adherence to CIC’s Code of Ethics
  5. Participate in a peer review every 7 years

 Note: Should employment cease – Chaplain will be placed in an “awaiting employment” status for 1 year
